2022 Biennial Meeting

Dear Colleagues,

I trust this finds you practicing diligently through the difficulties that winter brings – with the weather making life more difficult than usual for those on the east coast, not to mention the rounds of COVID and flu which seem to be encircling most centres around Australia.

However, I’m also fairly confident that this will find most of you practicing with Perfection, Pragmatism and Progress! As the theme of our most recent Scientific Conference in Melbourne, it certainly provided much food for thought for all who attended. For those of you who were there, I’m sure you found it, as I did, a much-needed stimulus for the mind after a long break; and equally (if not more!) enjoyable was the time spent with colleagues and friends we have not seen for far too long. Here’s a short recap of what happened:

  1. a      stellar scientific program with too many great lectures and speakers to      mention, but some memorable stand-outs for me were: Sree Koka challenging      us to consider why we might be doing some things which aren’t      necessary,  Urs Brodbeck showing us just what is possible with bonded      ceramic restorations (bordering on miraculous, if you ask me), and Drs      Stephen Chen and Greg Peake giving us a view from the Periodontist’s world      into what we do, and perhaps should reconsider doing!
  2. plenty      of sneaky breakfasts and dinners with colleagues in the many restaurants      and cafés surrounding the RACV in Melbourne…
  3. colleagues      discussing various problems (clinical and personal!) and sharing creative      solutions over many cups of coffee
  4. stimulating      and insightful research presentations from our postgraduate students,      infecting us with their usual enthusiasm and zeal, and
  5. a      wonderful conference dinner with lots of laughs, drinks, and more laughs

For those of you who were there, I’m sure you’re already missing the great time we shared together.

For those of you who missed out, we missed you and encourage you to make sure you’re there in 2024!

In the coming months, I hope you will be contacted by your state/region Councillors who have signed up to work tirelessly to broaden our membership, enhance our collegiality, and add to the joy that comes from being prosthodontists together. I’m hoping there will be more opportunities for us to engage more with our colleagues to make ours an Academy well worth being a part of.
